North East Water is committed to providing water, sewerage and tradewaste services to customers in an environmentally responsible manner and to a standard that meets government and customer expectations.
In order to help achieve this, North East Water has implemented an externally certified Environmental Management System (EMS). This EMS has been developed and is maintained to the requirements of the Australian Standard, ISO 14001: Environmental Management Systems. To ensure North East Water continues to fulfil the requirements of this standard, the EMS is audited by Quality Assurance Services each 6 months.
Maintaining an EMS means undertaking and documenting things such as identifying North East Water's everyday risks to the environment and ranking these risks according to the likelihood and consequence of them occurring. From there, priorities to control the highest risks can be set and tracked, along with programmed routine monitoring and maintenance of equipment to help proactively control environmental incidents and North East Water's overall impact to the environment.
Occupational Health & Safety Management System
In carrying out its daily operations, North East Water employs more than 100 people across North East Victoria. These employees carry out a range of duties and tasks, from office work through to water and sewer main repairs.
To protect our employees from the inherent risks associated with these duties, North East Water has implemented an externally certified Occupational Health and Safety Management System. This system has been developed and is maintained to the requirements of the Australian Standard AS 4801:2001. We are one of a select group of Victorian water authorities to achieve this. In addition, the system is accredited under the Global Standard OHSAS 18001:1999.
To ensure we continue to fulfil the requirements of both standards, the OHSMS is audited by SAI Global each 6 months.
Maintaining an OHSMS means identifying and ranking the possible risks to employee health and safety within every aspect of our business, and ensuring there are up-to-date policies and procedures in place to mitigate those risks.
