Corporation commits to Stage 2 all summer
North East Water has committed to Stage 2 water restrictions for Wodonga for the remainder of summer, but says the pledge is contingent on the community?s cooperation.
The decision also applies to other towns supplied from the Murray River system, including Tallangatta, Bellbridge, Kiewa, Tangambalanga, Rutherglen, Wahgunyah, Yarrawonga, Tungamah, St James and Devenish.
Managing Director, Craig Heiner, said the Corporation?s Board was keen to maximise customers? flexibility throughout the hot period.
?The reality has been that though we?ve been on Stage 2 in these towns, the behaviour of customers has been more like Stage 3 in terms of their usage,? he said.
?So by maintaining Stage 2, we continue to provide that extra bit of flexibility in allowable watering times ? every second day, instead of only two days a week.?
Mr Heiner said the decision represented a two-way commitment.
?Provided that the community continues to be conservative in its water use, and demand doesn?t rise too much, we?re confident we can stay at Stage 2 until the end of summer,? he said.
He said the Corporation would use its current allocation, carryover from last year?s allocation and water from the temporary market as necessary to maintain the restriction level.
