North East Water picks up top business award
North East Water won an award at Friday night's Albury-Wodonga Business Awards, run by the local Chambers of Commerce.
We entered two categories: Excellence in Environment and Sustainability and Best Large Business, and reached the final four in both. It is the second time we have achieved this for the Environment Award - but this time ... we won it!!!
To enter these awards we had to submit an entry outlining our activities and performance against the various categories and to explain why we should win an award. A judging panel then narrowed each category down to four finalists, and we then underwent two separate interviews by four judges, who put a recommendation to the final panel of judges for selection.
Our Environment and Sustainability entry focused on the installation of the pipeline to Barnawartha and Chiltern to secure their future water supply. We also highlighted our work with reclaimed water, particularly the new pipeline in Wodonga that services Birallee Park, Kelly Park and the Tennis Centre. In addition we spoke about activities such as our Fleet Matrix, some of our farming practices, wetland rehabilition at Benalla and our membership of Eco Buy.
Although we were not successful in the Best Large Business category, it was our first attempt at this award. We believe we have learnt from the experience and will look to improve on our performance next year while defending this well-deserved Environment Award.
All staff should be acknowledged for their contributions to this award; everyone's efforts made it possible. A special mention should go to Manager of Sustainability and Environment, Dr Tim Clune, who was instrumental in the win.
