Stage 4 Restrictions at Chiltern
North East Water will commence Stage 4 Water Restrictions in Chiltern effective Saturday 14th February 2009.
Current demand is exceeding the supply available from the existing bore and no supply is available from the spring supply.
North East Water, Executive Manager, Operations, Fiona Smith said the current demand and recent hot weather, has placed even greater pressure on the bore supply and as such the Corporation is asking residents to restrict their water use, to household use only.
"Residents will be aware we are currently finalising a system upgrade which will see a permanent supply, via a pipeline from Wodonga to Barnawartha and Chiltern, but in the mean time we have been closely monitoring the existing supply and its ability to serve our customers."
Ms Smith said Our staff have been working to try and ensure we could minimise the impact of restrictions on customers in the lead up to the commissioning of the pipeline, but unfortunately the run of extremely hot weather and subsequent increase in demand has meant this will not be possible."
"We are asking residents to minimise their consumption until we can finalise the pipeline project (due for completion in March 2009) at which point we will be able to provide increased security of supply and reduce the level of restrictions" she said.
We will continue to monitor the supply and demand on the system on a daily basis to ensure we are able to deliver water to our customers
Ms Smith said "Customers will receive notification of these changes this week, including full details of the water uses allowed under Stage 4 restrictions."
"We understand the significant impost which restrictions place on our customers and thank all residents for their understanding and cooperation during this period" Ms Smith said.
Stage 4 restrictions ban all outside water use.
