North East Water offers help to Eskdale
North East Water is assisting the Eskdale community by transporting treated water to the township until a longer-term solution can be implemented.
The town's supply, run by a community trust, is close to running dry, according to a newspaper report today.
North East Water Managing Director, Craig Heiner, said the Corporation was in the process of organising tankers of water to deliver the town.
"The water, sourced from the Wodonga supply system, will be delivered to the town?s water storage tanks after lunch today, and will continue as long as needed," he said.
"We would ask the community to continue to be vigilant with their water use to ensure the supply isn't depleted, and we?d recommend only in-house water use.
"We understand the community tanks are currently half full; we aim to fill these today and ensure water for essential human needs is maintained."
Mr Heiner said the Corporation was working with the Eskdale community to fast-track a more sustainable long-term solution, a situation that has been exacerbated by the extended drought.
"Eskdale has already been identified under the Victorian Government's Country Towns Water Supply and Sewerage Program," he said.
"In the longer term, the next stage for investigations about an upgraded water supply is to evaluate groundwater availability for a drinking water supply.
"Previous community meetings regarding the upgrade have provided positive community feedback."
