NORTH EAST WATER REINFORCES COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY
North East Water has partnered with the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) to develop a new Corporate Licence which moves beyond compliance and aims to achieve increased sustainability outcomes.
Managing Director of North East Water, Craig Heiner said "In today's current environment there is an imperative for water corporations to invest in the protection and conservation of the environment. Our Strategic Intent reflects our desire to be an environmental champion, and we see the establishment of a Corporate Licence as a key step in this process."
The Corporation and the EPA have worked closely to develop the Corporate Licence, which includes a new sustainability commitment that focuses on both the Corporation?s water and wastewater services and replaces the existing 18 waste discharge licences.
"This new commitment, reshapes the partnership between EPA and the Corporation to pursue environmental gains for our region."
"An overall Corporate Licence allows the Corporation to streamline its approach to achieve the Environmental Performance Conditions within the licence, but also reinforces the commitment to achieving sustainable outcomes beyond our direct service areas" Mr Heiner said.
Mr Heiner said "North East Water is committed to ensuring we work with all stakeholders to protect and enhance the environment throughout the region and we are pleased to continue to work with the EPA in achieving these goals."
As part of this partnership, North East Water will attend a Climate Change Forum, being hosted by the EPA in Beechworth on Monday 2nd March 2009, where climate change expert, Dr Paul Tebo, will discuss regional impacts of climate change.
"This opportunity will allow the Corporation and other regional stakeholders to better understand how we can foster sustainable outcomes for our communities." Mr Heiner said.
