The students are taking part in the Mindshop Excellence work experience program being hosted by the water corporation as part of its engagement of the region’s youth.
The Mindshop Excellence is a five-day program that provides work-based experience for year 10 students, while enabling businesses to address real issues with a fresh set of eyes.
North East Water’s Executive Manager Customer and Financial Services, Anthony Hernan, said the program was a unique opportunity to acquire the perspective of youth on a key organisational challenge.
“We are currently looking seriously at how we communicate with customers, and how we can adapt and change our communication methods and messages to suit our customers of the future,” he said.
“We are also interested in their perspective on how we can encourage people to drink tap water in favour of bottled water, taking into account the environmental, economic and social aspects of that choice.
“I think this program and the five students we have engaged can provide us with some invaluable insights on these issues, and I’m really looking forward to the results,” he said.
At the beginning of the week the students will be presented with these issues to work on using a set of problem-solving methods they will learn as part of the program.
They will then present their findings to North East Water’s Executive Management team at the end of the week.
