Public input sought on draft Water Plan

31 May 2012

North East Water’s draft Water Plan 2013-18 is now available for public comment.

The Water Plan comprises the Corporation’s proposed pricing levels, infrastructure investments and service standards for the 2013-18 period. It has been prepared for Victoria’s economic regulator, the Essential Services Commission (ESC).

Managing Director, Craig Heiner, said the draft plan had been submitted to the ESC, and had also been posted on the North East Water website along with a series of fact sheets - click here. Public submissions can be made to North East Water or direct to the ESC up until September 2012.

“We encourage people to read the plan and submit their thoughts on our proposals,” he said.

“Public submissions are a vital link in the process of finalising this important document, and the best way to ensure we make the right decisions on behalf of our customers and communities.”

Community members will also be able to contribute to the plan through a series of community information sessions planned for Wodonga, Wangaratta, Benalla, Yarrawonga and Myrtleford throughout July.

Mr Heiner said the community information sessions were a chance for people to hear a presentation on the plan, ask questions of North East Water staff, and provide feedback on the plan.

“People can download a copy of the Water Plan from our website beforehand, or call us to be sent a hard copy,” he said.

“We would like to see as many public submissions as possible, so I would encourage anyone interested to keep an eye on local papers for details on the community information sessions.”

Mr Heiner said the draft Water Plan had been prepared in consultation with the Water Plan 3 Reference Group, a group of community, industry and local government representatives from across the region.

“The reference group has been thorough and professional in helping us to plan for the future, and it will continue to be active throughout the consultation period,” he said.
