North East Water has moved into the implementation phase on the Bright off-river storage, and has engaged a group of key stakeholders to provide input and feedback on the delivery and implementation of the project.
The off-river storage at Freeburgh will contain the equivalent of 520 Olympic swimming pools of water. It will be filled when there are high river flows, ensuring water security for the growing Bright community through any future droughts.
The Stakeholder Liaison Group met for the first time last month.
The group comprises representatives from the Department of Sustainability and Environment, VicRoads, Goulburn-Murray Water, North East Catchment Management Authority and HVP Plantations, as well as a resident from Smoko.
North East Water Executive Manager of Planning and Infrastructure, Kevin Freeman, encouraged other interested residents of the area to nominate for the group.
“We would like to see stronger community representation on this group to assist us in delivering a project that meets the water security needs of the Bright, Wandiligong and Porepunkah communities,” he said.
The group’s terms of reference define its role as:
Mr Freeman said the group would meet quarterly in line with project timelines until early 2013.
