Secure Water For Dartmouth

27 Jul 2012

A new chapter for Dartmouth’s water supply will commence today with the official opening of the town’s new water treatment plant.

North East Water’s Deputy Chair Frank Burfitt will officially open the fully automated facility consisting of coagulation/flocculation, pressure filtration and chlorine disinfection to deliver quality drinking water to the local community.

Deputy Chair Frank Burfitt said the town had suffered from periods of varying water quality including occasion of noticeable discolouration due to the supply previously being unfiltered.

“The use of the additional treatment barriers will deliver year round high quality water supply for the residents of Dartmouth.”

“This is a great outcome for the community and signifies a positive water future where water quality issues are likely to become a thing of the past,” Mr Burfitt said.

“With safe drinking water available year-round the area’s strong tourism appeal will only be increased.”

“The opening of the plant reflects the successful partnership between North East Water and community input. I would especially like to acknowledge the contribution by local resident John Scales for his efforts in operating the previous system for many years.”
