Treatment Information
North East Water treatment plants vary from lagoon-based treatment systems in the small hamlets of Barnawartha and Bundalong, to modern tertiary treatment plants at Wangaratta, Wodonga and Mt Beauty.
The performance of our treatment plants is continually monitored and North East Water holds waste discharge licences for all of its 18 wastewater treatment plants. These licences set out monitoring and reporting requirements, limits for discharging to both water and land, and environmental management requirements. All wastewater effluent discharges are sampled and tested for various parameters on a monthly basis to monitor compliance with Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) discharge licence conditions. The results of this monitoring are contained in the Annual Performance Report that is submitted to the EPA annually in August.
